Local Heroes to Receive National Daughters of the American Revolution Awards

Jayne
Cates and Pam Otto are being recognized by the National Daughters of the
American Revolution for their work in community service and history. These two stars
of the community will be honored by the local Elias Kent Kane chapter at a
National Awards Luncheon on Saturday, June 7th at the Elgin Country
Club.



            Cates,
an accomplished genealogist, will be receiving the National History Award for
her work in authoring Revolutionary
Soldiers of Illinois
. Written in conjunction with the Illinois State
Genealogy Society, the local DAR chapter is working to donate this book to all
area high schools and public libraries.



            Otto is being presented the National
Conservation Award for her dedication to the Fox River Ecosystem Partnership,
in addition to spearheading a variety of nature programs throughout the area.
Her endeavors to preserve the environment, as well as spread awareness, have
significantly improved the community.

The
Awards Luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. The public is warmly invited to join and
celebrate Cates’ and Otto’s accomplishments, as well as learn more about DAR.
