Literacy Volunteers Needed

Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley is hosting a free tutor training workshop for residents who want to help tri-city adults learn English. The four-session workshop will be held at the St. Charles Public Library on Mondays and Wednesdays April 7, 9, 14 and 16 from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.

Volunteers do not need a background in education or a second language to be effective. Students say that the best literacy volunteers are patient, listen and give practical information.

Each volunteer who completes the workshop will be matched with one adult student. Literacy volunteers teach for one hour each week at a time and public location that is convenient.

One of the most satisfying things about being a literacy volunteer is that they get to see the direct results of their volunteer efforts. From week to week, volunteers will see their students get more comfortable and fluent in English, which makes a big difference in their students' lives.

To register for the April workshop or for a future workshop, visit, www.lvfv.org or call Peg Coker at 630-584-4428.
