iMATHination 2013: “Common Practices”


Bringing focus to the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics 8 Mathematical Practices


The Chicago Teachers’ Center at Northeastern Illinois University presents its 7th annual mathematics conference for educators Jan. 25-26, 2013, at the Q Conference Center in St. Charles, IL. The two day retreat-style conference is geared toward middle and high school educators and has a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) focus. This year the featured keynote
speakers are William Ayers, formerly Distinguished Professor of Education and Senior University Scholar at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Dr. Danny Martin, professor of Education and Mathematics at the University of Illinois at Chicago. There will be special workshop sessions by Mike Byster.


The conference theme is “Common Practices” and sessions will focus on the Common Core State Standards Mathematical Practices. Participants will be immersed in rich, hands-on, thought-provoking activities that will help facilitate the necessary shifts in instruction called for by the new standards. The workshop content will include algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus and integrated math/science, and math/technology sessions. Educators can earn 9 CPDU's.


Vendors/exhibitors include ETA hand2mind, Texas Instruments, Barbara’s Bookstore and Explore Learning.


The Chicago Teachers’ Center is an academic unit within the College of Education at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. The mission of the Center is to improve urban education through collaborative partnerships among the College of Education, schools, community agencies, and businesses.
