Aurora's Temple B'nai Israel Gearing up for High Holidays

Starting with the Summer Family Fest

Temple B’nai Israel, an independent congregation serving Jewish families of the Fox Valley area since 1904,  is gearing up for its 2013 High Holiday services and the first day of religious school--with the annual summer family fest coming up on Sunday, Aug. 18th.

The Jewish High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur bookend the 10 days of Awe--a period of prayer, self-examination, fasting, and repentance.

This year Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Wednesday, Sept. 4, with services that evening at 6:30 p.m. at the synagogue at 400 N. Edgelawn, Aurora. A holiday dinner follows services for all those with paid reservations.  Services continue on Thursday morning, Sept. 5th, at 9:00 a.m., and Friday, Sept. 6th.  Kol Nidre services begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, with Yom Kippur morning services continuing at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14.

Rabbi Shmuel Mann is the full-time spiritual leader of the congregation.

Admission to High Holiday services is free to current Temple B’nai Israel members, IMSA students, all area college students, and first-time prospective members. All others may purchase tickets for admission. A High Holiday schedule and ticket information may be found at  the Temple website.
