Lawyer, Library Board Member Steve Andersson Will Seek Schmitz' Illinois House Seat

Steve Andersson will announce his intention to run for the Illinois House of Representatives, 65th District, in the March 2014 Republican primary, according to a release issued this wee.

Andersson will make the announcement at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, on the steps of the Kane County Courthouse. The public is invited to attend.

Tim Schmitz, the current house representative for the 65th District, has announced he will not run for re-election.

An attorney and long time Geneva resident, Andersson received his bachelor of arts degree from Northern Illinois University in 1986 and his Juris Doctorate, Magna Cum Laude, from the NIU Law School in 1992. He is a small business owner as a partner in the law firm of Mickey, Wilson, Weiler, Renzi and Andersson, P.C. in Aurora.

In his law practice, Andersson has concentrated on local government and municipal law, serving as general counsel and village prosecutor for the villages of Montgomery, Sugar Grove and Hinckley; counsel for the MetroWest Council of Government, since its inception, and the Northwest Water Planning Alliance; Special Prosecutor and Special Counsel for North Aurora, Aurora and other local municipalities; and general counsel for numerous Homeowners’ Associations.

In 2012, Andersson was the recipient of the Star Award from MetroWest Council of Government.

As an elected official, Andersson has held the offices of trustee and treasurer of the Geneva Public Library (2009 to present; treasurer 2011 to present); Republican precinct committeeman for Geneva Precinct 3 (2008 to present); and member of General Assembly for the Illinois State Bar Association (2009 to present).

Andersson has an extensive background of civic involvement including member and treasurer of the Geneva Public Library District for the last five years, liaison to the Library Interconnected Network (LINC) for Geneva, member of the City of Geneva Advisory Committee relating to the Anniversary of SPAC, member of the City of Geneva Smoking Ban Task Force, member of the City of Geneva Water Rate Review Committee, past president of the Kane County Bar Association, board member of the Kane County Bar Foundation, member of the Board of the Aurora Family Counseling Service and Big Brothers/Big Sisters and chairman of the Greater Aurora Chamber of Commerce School/Business Partnership Program.

Andersson is married with two children.
