Tri-Cities' Busy Weekend: Holiday Events Dec. 1-2

All Weekend (Dec. 1-2)

Mooseheart Holiday Lights

  • When/Where: 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Mooseheart Child City & School, 155 W. James J. Davis Drive (off Route 31, just north of Route 31 and Mooseheart Road).
  • Why Go?: This is one of the Chicago area’s largest and most spectacular holiday light displays, with more than 400 lighted figures over a 1.8-mile drive-through course on the beautiful Mooseheart campus.
  • How Much?: $10 per car.

  • When/Where: 7:30 p.m. Saturday; 2 p.m. Sunday, 901 N. Edgelawn Drive, Aurora.
  • Why Go?: Kick off the Christmas season with this charming musical based on the beloved, timeless film White Christmas featuring 17 Irving Berlin songs and a dual Marmion/Rosary cast of 40 students.
  • How Much?: $10 adults, $8 students and seniors

Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 1-2)

Historic Dunham Castle Holiday Reception

  • When/Where: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (tours at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.), 5n648 Dunham Road, Wayne, IL Get Directions » 
  • Why Go?: This is a rare opportunity to see behind the gates of this local historic landmark built in the 1800's. Alex's Army Relay for Life team is hosting a holiday reception with refreshments and live music. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
  • How Much?: $30 per person, seniors $25


Saturday Only (Dec. 1)

TriCity Family Services 4th Annual Snowflake Shuffle

Geneva Park District Hosts "Polar Express"

  • When/Where: 10:15 a.m., Geneva Metra Station, 328 Crescent Pl, Geneva, IL
  • How Much? FREE
  • Why Go? Inspired by the award winning book by Chris Van Allsburg, this holiday favorite comes to life as you and your family take a ride on The Polar Express. Once you arrive at the "North Pole", families will be entertained by reading The Polar Express, pizza and cookies. After, Santa will greet the children and take pictures.

Holiday Breakfast With Santa

  • When/Where: 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., Eastside Community Center, 14 N. Van Buren St., Batavia.
  • Why Go?: Enjoy a breakfast (pancakes, sausage, fruit, coffee, juice, milk), a visit with Santa and performances from the Batavia Showstoppers and “A Dickens Kind of Christmas” variety show.
  • How Much?: $13 for residents, $15 for Batavia non-Park District residents and $17 for nonresidents.

MALLternative - 4th Annual Craft & Vendor Show

  • When/Where: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Batavia VFW Post 1197, 645 S. River Street (Route 25), Batavia.
  • Why Go?: Looking for one-stop shopping without braving the dreaded mall? Find handmade crafts and vendor booths offering everything from jewelry to food and kitchen products, health and nutrition to clothing, chiropractic services to candles and cosmetics.
  • How Much?: FREE admission

Christmas Bazaar in Downtown Batavia

  • When/Where: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Attic Christian Arts Center, 26 N. Island Ave., Batavia
  • Why Go?: Catch some great deals on new and like new toys and gifts. Donations will also be accepted here for the Batavia ACCESS Toy Drive.
  • How Much?: FREE admission

Swedish Christmas & St. Lucia Festival

  • When/Where: 3 p.m., Bethany Lutheran Church, 8 S. Lincoln St., Batavia
  • Why Go?: The Swedish American Children's Choir will perform a concert, followed by a Swedish Christmas Sweet Table, baked goods and Scandinavian gift items. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the choir tour fund.
  • How Much?: $15 adults, $8 children 6-12 years old, tickets by reservation only at 630-414-9700.


Sunday Only (Dec. 2)

  • Christmas Concert of the Aurora University Choirs
  • When/Where: 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Aurora University (Crimi Auditorium), 407 S. Calumet Ave.
  • Why Go?: Aurora University brings in the holidays with a Christmas choir concert.
  • How Much?: FREE
