Wind Advisory in Effect Until 6 PM Friday

Be careful, especially if it's your garbage pickup day. Winds will "steadily increase through the remainder of this morning and this afternoon," the NWS-Chicago says.

The Tri-Cities version of the National Weather Service is warning residents of gusts of up to 40 mph Friday morning.

This comes from a Special Weather Statement and Wind Advisory issued for Kane and other Norther Illlinois counties.

The Wind Advisory is in effect until 6 p.m.

"Strong winds have already developed across the region this morning in response to a broad area of low pressure over the central and northern plains," the NWS-Chicago says. "Winds will steadily increase through the remainder of this morning and afternoon, with speeds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts to 40 mph."

"Localized gusts in excess of 40 mph are possible and may prompt a wind advisory should they become more widespread."

Tri-Cities residents should take note: "Gusty winds may cause small objects such as trash bins to blow around."

"Stay away from high objects such as trees. Gusty winds will also make travel hazardous, expecially for high-profile vehicles," the NWS says.
