Someone Takes City Transmitter Valued at $5,000
City workers attempt to fix water main and their equipment is stolen from the scene.
Someone took a city of Geneva-owned Radio Detection model T10 transmitter from a city transformer in the area of the 0-100 block of Simpson Street, where city employees were trying to fix a water main break around 7:32 a.m. Sept. 22, reports said.
The city employee told police he was in the area trying to locate underground utilities for a water main break when he "affixed the transmitter to a transformer box." He walked a short distance to where the digging was to occur, and when he walked back to the transformer box, the transmitter was missing.
City employees knocked on the doors of area residents' homes, but no one had seen the transmitter or anyone in the area.
