Richard Marks Named Geneva's 2013-14 Mayor Pro Tem

Mike Bruno joins the Geneva City Council and other elected officials are sworn in Monday, May 6, 2013.

Geneva 2nd Ward Alderman Richard Marks will be the 2013-14 mayor pro tem of Geneva, IL.

The honor is handed out annually to an alderman who basically serves as the mayor's sub whenever necessary, either as the leader of a Council Council meeting in the mayor's absence or at public events or if the mayor is incapacitated and can't perform his duties.

Marks succeeds 3rd Ward Alderman Dawn Vogelsberg. Fifth Ward Alderman Craig Maladra held the spot in 2011-12.

The resolution says Marks will hold the position from May 6, 2013, through May 4, 2014, and the honor is granted "in recognition of service to the citizens of the City of Geneva."

The mayor pro tem takes over as major in these three circumstances:

(1) When the mayor is absent from the city at the time of a regular or special City Council meeting.

(2) When in the opinion of the City Council, an emergency exists in the city at a time when the mayor is absent from the city.

(3) When the mayor cannot act upon business matters of the city due to any physical or mental disabilities, or conflicts of interest of the mayor.

Marks has been a Geneva alderman for four years.

The City Council aslo welcomes Mike Bruno, who defeated Zachary Ploppert in the April election for 1st Ward alderman.

The mayor also formally reappoints city staff members at the Monday meeting, including:

  • Stephanie Dawkins, Director of Administrative Services/Asstistant City Administrator
  • Dan Dinges, Director of Public Works
  • Steve Mexin, Police Chief
  • Steve Olson, Fire Chief
  • Ellen Divita, Director of Economic Development
  • Richard B. Untch, Director of Community Development
  • Charles A. Radovich, City Attorney
