Night Life in Geneva: From Live Jazz to Story Time, a Lot Going On Right Now

You can take in some live music this weekend or bring the little ones to a pajama party at the mall; either way there is plenty to do in Geneva after the sun goes down.

Summer nights on the weekend can bring out the best in everyone. Squeezing as much fun out of summer as possible is the perfect reason to enjoy all the great night-life entertainment Geneva has to offer.

  •  restaurant is known for its delicious food and drink, but owners also have a knack for entertaining guests with talented local musicians on weekends; tonight (Friday) is no exception. Acoustic guitarist Dennis O'Brien has been performing classic rock favorites for more than 25 years. His experience with some of the world's top blues artists and beloved local bands has made him a solid musician with a well-rounded repertoire.   • Getting the kids to put their pajamas on summer nights when the sun is still technically out can be a trying test of a parents patience. But for the past 15 years has been making bedtime rituals fun with Imagination Destination's Summer Reading Pajama Storytime. This Friday is the first pajama story time of 2011, and children will enjoy listening to the books, Scat, Cat!, by Alyssa Satin Capucilli, and New Kid in Town, by Mercer Mayer. The stories begin at 7 p.m. in the children's area of Barnes & Noble located in the Geneva Commons Mall.  
  •  Born and raised in Winnipeg, Kevin Brown studied music at local Wheaton College and then became a fixture on the Chicago Jazz scene in 2009. His style of playing includes using a fret-less guitar, which adds complexity to the music through sound and technique. You can hear The Kevin Brown Duo performing Friday from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at in Geneva.
  • Justifying a cover charge this weekend could be a little easier since local band Broken Neon is set host a charity show at 8 p.m. this Saturday at in St. Charles. All of the proceeds from the $5 cover charge will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. This event is a great way to listen to some live music while giving back to those in need.
