Happy Flag Day: 5 Things You Should Know for Tuesday, June 14

Here are today's must-know items in Geneva.

1.  Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the nation's flag by the Second Continental Congress in 1777. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation claiming June 14 as Flag Day; in 1949 an act of Congress established National Flag Day. 

2. Chicago Bear quarterback Caleb Hanie will be in Geneva today, as  celebrates its grand opening in Geneva with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be served until 8 p.m. 

3. Geneva Township Assessor Denise LaCure is sponsoring an informative property  with the assistance of Sheri McMurray, director of the Geneva Senior Center, at 10 a.m. in the , 400 Wheeler Dr.

4. The  will hold the following events:

  • Grades 5 through 8 can attend  and make a fake glass spill prank to bring home. Grades 5 and 6 meet from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and 7 and 8 from 11 a.m. to noon. Please contact the Geneva Public Library Youth Services Department for registration information. 
  • Musician  performs finger-style acoustic guitar from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  •  will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the small conference room.
