Fox Valley Jewish School in Geneva Offers Curriculum for Students Living in Non-Jewish Communities

"This is not your parents' Sunday School."

“This is not your parents’ Sunday school,” says Tammie Weinberger of Fox Valley Jewish School. “This fall we are introducing a new curriculum designed for students living in a non-Jewish community and often an interfaith family.”

Fox Valley Jewish School is affiliated with Fox Valley Jewish Neighbors (FVJN). The group was formed to create a Jewish community for the many Jewish and interfaith families living in Fox River Valley. FVJN serves families looking for Jewish activities close to home and sensitive to modern family needs.

The school will begin its second year of operation in September.

Centrally located in Geneva, approximately 50 students were enrolled in the school last year.

“We were pleasantly surprised with the number of students enrolled last year,” says  Weinberger. “We are making adjustments to handle a large group. Changes parents will appreciate include all students meeting at the same time on Sunday mornings and a set calendar for the year. Classes generally meet two Sundays each month, September through May. Tuition will remain very reasonable and FVJN has no membership dues.”

The new curriculum will expose all students to music, art and Hebrew on a regular basis. Students will benefit from teachers specializing in each of these areas.

In addition, each class is led by a core teacher who will guide the students through lessons designed to give the children a solid understanding of what it means to be Jewish in America. In addition to classroom time, the children will spend one out of every four sessions outside the building for hands-on activities in community service and environmental projects.

Fox Valley Jewish School is accepting enrollment for the 2011-12 school year for preschoolers through early teens. Bar/bat mitzvah preparation is available if desired. For more information, e-mail Tammie@fvjn.org or call 630 578-3375.
