Feel Like a Skating Star While Gliding in The Sky

Put on your "Hans Brinkers" and try gliding on the ice atop the Hancock this month during Skating in the Sky.

Leave your troubles on the ground floor and head to the ice skating rink on the 94th floor of one of Chicago’s legendary landmarks on Michigan Avenue.

You'll feel as if you're skating among the clouds at the John Hancock Observatory during Skating In The Sky—but you'd better hurry; the rink closes March 31.

The ice rink is 900 square feet and made of a state-of-the-art synthetic substance. The rink is said to be a world first at a height of 1,000 feet. You can sip hot chocolate in the café after practicing your figure-eights overlooking the city's lakefront.

The rink is open 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. with the last session sold at 10 p.m. The 25-minute skating sessions are $5, in addition to the Observatory admission of $14.25 for adults and $9.50 for children ages 3 to 11.

The Hancock Observatory rents skates at the rink for $1 if you don't have your own and offers private skating parties.

You can turn your trip into a skate-cation. The Hancock has partnered with a range of Chicago hotels so that you can plan your own staycation. Check out an extra special transport add-on, so you can see the city from a Chicago Trolley. And if you do plan a skate-cation, check out deals that will make your trip even more enjoyable.

The John Hancock Observatory is at 875 N. Michigan Ave. and parking is available.
