Family Skate Night, Classic Cars and More—5 Things You Should Know for Tuesday, Aug. 16

The world of rock 'n' roll lost an important icon 34 years ago today.

Attend a book discussion at the library, pay homage to the "King" and spend some quality time with the family.

Here are five things going on today:

1. for former and current students and teachers. Families are asked to bring a dish to pass, their own place settings and blankets or chairs to sit on. The main dish will be provided by the Learning Tree.

2. The will hold a book discussion on The Diary of Mattie Spenser by Sandra Dallas from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The discussion will be held in the conference room. For more information please contact Debbie Walsh at 630-232-0780.

3. Wrap up the summer with the last for the season. This annual weekly summer event is a free night of classic cars, music and entertainment the whole family can enjoy.

First Street Cruise Night takes place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on First Street from Main to Illinois streets in St. Charles.

4. Funway Roller Rink in Batavia will have Family Skate Night from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Family Skate Night offers roller skating for all ages with family-friendly music and games.

5. Today is the 34th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley. Presley was known as the king of rock 'n' roll and inspired a generation of music forming much of what we know as pop music today.

Presley died in his home, known as Graceland, located outside of Memphis, TN, on Aug. 16, 1977. He was 42 years old.
