Church Social: Feeding Homeless, Other Good Works on Tap This Week

Volunteers can feed the hungry around the world or just down Route 31.

The summer sun is going full blast, and so is the generosity of Geneva congregations.

Don't forget that is celebrating its today with a Closing Mass and Memory Lane Brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, 1891 Kaneville Road.

Here are just a few of the volunteer opportunities they’re offering this coming week:

is seeking good cooks and night owls to prepare and serve dinner for 200-plus people Monday, July 11, at Hesed House homeless shelter in Aurora. A cooking party to prepare sloppy joes, cole slaw and bean salad will start at 2 p.m. at the church, 320 Franklin St. Volunteers are needed to work at the shelter between 11 p.m. July 11 and 3 a.m. July 12. will host filmmaker Diane Nilan, who will present her documentary On the Edge about seven homeless mothers and their children, at 7 p.m. Friday, July 15, at the church, 102 S. Second St. For more information, visit the UUSG website at www.uusg.org.

will host Vacation Bible School from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 11-15, at the church, 823 Hamilton St. The event is free. For more information, visit the church’s website at www.calvarygeneva.org.

will host a packing session for “Feed My Starving Children”, a charity that sends meals to underprivileged people worldwide, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, at the church, 211 Hamilton St. For more information, call Dave Erickson at 584-2553.
