Burns Announces Candidacy, Park District Registration, Court Fees to Rise—5 Things You Should Know for Tuesday, Aug. 9

The Kane County Board will have a special meeting today that might affect your wallet.

Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns will formally throw his hat into the ring for Kane County Board chairman. And, of course, this will follow Kane County's Special Committee of the Whole meeting where they'll discuss raising some fees.

The Geneva Park District is an Illinois Distinguished Agency and known for their award-winning programs. Since 1953 they have been providing Geneva residents with the highest quality parks and recreation. You can find a link to the Fall 2011 brochure and important registration information below. 

Here are five things you should know about today:

1. Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns will announce a run for Kane County Board chairman position at noon at the . Burns said Monday night that he would not resign his position as mayor while he pursues the top spot in Kane County politics.

2. Residents can start registering today for fall programs at the Geneva Park District.  You can click here to see the fall 2011 brochure. 

3. As part of the Geneva History Center's current photographic exhibit, Who Was Sadie Cooksey, you can join a , at 7 p.m. at the Geneva History Center. 

Participants are asked to bring in an 8-by-10 photograph to discuss an critique. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for Geneva History Center members and students. 

4., sponsored by the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce, starts at 5:30 p.m. in 1st Street Plaza, between Main and Illinois streets. Bring the family out for a free night of classic cars and fun activities; food and beverages will also be available for purchase. There's only two weeks of Cruise Night left this summer, make sure you don't miss it!

5. Kane County will have a special Committee of the Whole meeting at 10:30 a.m. to discuss raising court filing fees. It is possible that fees will be raised an additional $190. 

In 2010 Kane County's census numbers reached 500,000. An Illinois state statute says once counties reach this population level they can raise court fees. A copy of the meeting agenda can be found by clicking here
