5 Things You Should Know for Thursday, July 28—Fresh Produce, Classic Cars, National Hamburger Day and More

There's so much more to do in Geneva before the summer ends. You can find yourself at any one of our five favorite activities in or out of town today.

You can celebrate National Hamburger Day at any one of Geneva's fine restaurants serving the all-American dish. But, with so many options to choose from, where will you end up?

Also, you can take advantage of the fresh foods of summer before it's too late and stop by Geneva's Green Market this morning. 

Here are five opportunities for Thursday, July 28:

1. There's been some controversy over the invention of what we know as the hamburger. Seemingly an all-American food, the hamburger made it's first appearance on plates in 15th century Europe.

Since then, American's have made the hamburger somewhat of a national food. We enjoy it during the summer on the grill and at restaurant grill's year-round. 

2. The takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the old courthouse in downtown Geneva. Enjoy food, music and a DJ; free admission. 

3. The St. Charles Park District will end its summer  with the band, "How Far to Austin" at 7 p.m. in Lincoln Park. How Far to Austin is a soul/rock Chicago-based band. 

This is a family-style picnic on the lawn concert. Food will be available from local vendors, or you can bring your own. 

4. You can  from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the  and learn about how to form an "accountability group." Members have routinely met to encourage advancement of their individual family histories or projects within an accountability group.

At this meeting, members of this accountability group will share how the group works, sets goals and advances research. Attendees of this meeting will meet with fellow genealogists to create their own accountability group and schedule a mentor to assist with the first few meetings.

5. You will find some deliciously fresh produce at the  starting at 7 a.m. The Geneva Green Market takes place at 75 N. River Lane and features locally grown fruits, vegetables, eggs, meat, artisan cheese and bakery items.
