5 Things You Should Know For Monday, June 27—Martha Washington, Brush Pick-Up and HIV Testing

Help the fight against HIV and AIDS by joining in on the National HIV Testing Day campaign and participate in the 2011 Ketel One Golf Challenge at Eagle Brook in Geneva.

Students at Geneva High School would like to take a trip to Italy next summer, but they have to get approval from the School Board first. Hear what they have to say about it Monday night during the meeting at the Coultrap facility.

If historical performances are more up your alley, then visit the for a presentation on Martha Washington, complete with stories and recipes from a bygone era. 

Here are our five things going on Monday in Geneva:

1. Children's author and storyteller Lynn Rymarz will be at the  in Geneva for a historical presentation titled,  from 9 a.m to 11 a.m. This program begins with breakfast in the Little Traveler's Atrium Cafe and participants are asked to enter on Fulton St. at 8:45 a.m. 

Rymarz will bring Mrs. Washington to life by sharing stories and recipes from an important time in our nation's history. During this event, you will hear the truth behind George Washington's wooden teeth and find out what really happened when he chopped down the cherry tree. 2. Monday's city meetings include:

  • Geneva School District 304 will hold a at 7 p.m. at the , 1113 Peyton St. Geneva, IL. Discussions will include Geneva High School's out-of-country trip proposal to Italy in the summer of 2012 and Automated External Defibrillator medical emergency procedures.

  •  A meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in , 109 James St. A copy of the meeting agenda will be available this morning; you may view it by clicking here

3. Brush pick-up for the East Side of Geneva will take place starting at 7 a.m. No foreign materials or yard waste will be picked up ,and limbs and branches must follow specific guidelines in order to be considered acceptable for removal.

4. The starts at 9:30 a.m. at Eagle Brook Country Club, 2288 Fargo Boulevard. Participants will enjoy an exciting day of contests and challenges. Prizes include a Nike Golf bag, free rounds of golf, bottles of Ketel One, and more.

Free samples of Ketel One drinks will also be provided, but please drink responsibly. 

5. National HIV Testing Day is an event sponsored by the National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA) in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and encourages people of all ages to "Take the test, Take Control." Early diagnosis of HIV is critical in treating the disease in order to benefit from life saving treatment options.
