Casey's Safe Haven...What is it????

Someone asked me if I wanted to blog for Casey's Safe Haven.  I'm clearly a dog person but never in the world thought that  I would be involved in rescue, and certainly not blogging about it!  I'll save that story for another article, today let's start with some basics:

Casey's Safe Haven - We are a dog and horse rescue based out of Elburn. I don't know much about the horse side (but if you have any questions, I will find out the answer).  We rescue dogs from very high kill shelters in Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Missouri...almost anywhere.  There are many states that do not have spay and neuter laws and are overrun with dogs and puppies.  Every time we pull a pup from one of these shelters, we actually save 2 lives.  The life of the pup we pulled, and the life of the pup that will be moved into the spot we pulled from instead of being euthanized.

The Casey's Dog "Family" - Gaye, Kathy, Jen, and Tammy (me!).  We rock rescue like no other and are "rescue sisters"...we fight and laugh like family and wouldn't have it any other way.

Foster - A person or family that takes in one (or several) of our dogs and puppies and cares for them and trains them until we find them a home. Most dogs are in foster for at least 2 weeks before we place them for adoption so that we can have them checked by the vet and be provided with any needed vetting (shots, de-worming, spay/neuter).  We are an all foster rescue (there is no "shelter") and would not be able to do what we do without fosters.

Foster Failure - Sounds bad...but WE LOVE THEM!!!  These are people that agreed to foster, but fell in love with the dog/pup and adopted them into their home.

Transport - That's how we get our dogs here.  We partner will all volunteer rescue groups and transports that bring the dogs and puppies from the shelters to us...and on to their foster families.

Adoption Event - Usually held at a local (Geneva) PetSmart on the weekend. This is where we bring the pups to finalize adoptions after an Adoption Application has been completed and approved.
