Adoption Event Today!!!!

Today is a “Rescue Day”…as are most Saturdays.  That means that we will be at Petsmart in Geneva to help our dogs find Fur-ever homes.  The day goes like this:

I get up and get ready, make sure that the event supplies are in my car.  This is no easy feat!  The list includes leashes, treats, toys, flyers, business cards, microchips, paper towels, hand sanitizer….and on and on.  It fills my car to the brim!

Then I make sure that all of the volunteers that are coming with me know what time to be ready.  I leave that up to my daughter because she is much better at texting that I am (of course!). Once we are all in the car it’s time to head to McDonalds for LARGE drinks to make sure we have enough to last us through the day…and then off to Petsmart.

Once there, we unpack my car, lug everything in and get set up.  Around this time, I usually get a call from Kathy (my rescue sister) making sure I’m there (I am) and telling me it’s going to be a crazy day (it always is!).  We go over any last minute supplies needed and either she or Gaye (another rescue sister) gets them.  Once she arrives at Petsmart, I get a call for “all hands on deck”.  That means that all of the young volunteers go out to her car and help her with her supplies that include the pups medical records, puppy playpens, and usually puppies (today there will be about 6 or 7).  Kathy always insists that she is not a foster…but she always seems to have puppies to bring…go figure!

Now is when the crazy begins and I can’t begin to tell you how much I love it!  All of the other foster families come in with their pups and while this is happening, all of the people that contacted us during the week about a certain dog AND the people that saw a dog in one of our posts seem to get there in a tidal wave of madness.  It’s AWESOME!

Gaye and Kathy usually are reviewing adoption applications and doing adoptions, Jen (yep…another rescue sister) and I are speaking with families and describing the dogs, telling their story and explaining the adoption fees, process and what it includes.  (We also do the final adoptions too, but leave it up to the Gaye and Kathy if they are available.)

The volunteers are cleaning up accidents and running dogs outside as well as getting water and treats.  They also help by running the adoptions up to the register…without them we could not do this!

After a dog is adopted, Delaney (my real and rescue daughter) takes a picture of the family to post on our page.  If you adopt from us, you become part of our Rescue Family and we LOVE to hear from you about how “our” dog is doing.  We treat these pups as our own and it’s like a family member that moved away…we miss them and LOVE their Facebook posts!  We also love when they come back to see us!

At the end of the day, we are exhausted and thrilled.  Finding these babies their families is the best feeling in the world!

Gotta run and get ready…until later…Rescue On!
