Chairman’s Corner: Kane County is Truly Blessed

Now that I’ve worked for Kane County residents for seven months, I can comfortably say that I am consistently impressed by and am grateful for the quality of the people with whom I get to work.

Some people may take for granted that good things happen automatically, but you know that’s not true. You have to work hard to create for the good that occurs in yours and your family’s life.

The same holds true at the county. There are board members who are working diligently on behalf of their constituents. There are county-wide elected officials who are watching your money as if it were their very own…as hard as that might be to believe considering the current clichés regarding politicians.

And then, right there on the front lines, we have our county staff members who provide the face of Kane County as they routinely interact with citizens just like you.

The essential difference between local government and, please forgive me, “fancypants” government in Springfield and Washington D.C., is that we recognize that we can make a tangible difference every time we come to work.

From a clerk sharing sympathy and good service while collecting a property tax bill, to the natural beauty that’s produced and preserved by our groundskeepers and forest preserve staff, to a sheriff’s deputy answering a difficult distress call, all of these people help to create a community that we all can be proud of.

I am just grateful for the privilege you’ve given me to work with these great people.
