Chairman’s Corner: Time to Honor our Veterans!

Kane County Chairman Chris Lauzen shares his views with his constitutents.

A week from today many veterans and their loving and loyal families will be observing Memorial Day.

One of the fundamental values of our country is that we are all equal under the rule of law. However, those who have either sacrificed their lives or offered to serve in our armed forces are “first among equals.”

I am especially grateful this year because, within the last few moments, I got word that our oldest son Ted, a Marine Corps combat pilot, and his unit have lifted off the ground in Afghanistan and are making their way back home.

I am amazed at how these steadfast individuals serve one, much less multiple deployments, considering the psychological impact the separations have on the soldier. The nearly unbearable strain on relationships with family members, like spouses, children, and parents, only multiplies the stress.

So, it’s only appropriate that we will be holding a Memorial Day Ceremony on May 27, 2013 at 3 p.m. at the Kane County Veterans Memorial located at the Kane County Government Center at 719 South Batavia Avenue in Geneva.

The ceremony will pay tribute to those Kane County residents who gave their full devotion in the defense of this country.

Please join us in thanking our Kane County Veterans and their families for their heroic sacrifice.
