Marklund Employee Receives Honors

Diana Book, Director of Facility Services at Marklund, recently received the Award of Exemplary Action from the Elburn Fire Department. Nominated for the award by multiple members of the fire department, she was recognized for her positive attitude and dedication that has helped keep the clients, staff and visitors safe during her 14 years at Marklund.  Book, a resident of Elburn, received the award Sunday, Feb. 9, at the Elburn Fire Department’s annual appreciation and awards dinner.

“I am proud to live and work in a community with a dedicated fire department. The education in fire safety provided to me by the fire department personnel and Fire Marshall Isberg- has helped me succeed in my position at Marklund,” stated Book. “Their commitment to their community educates, and saves lives. If you have ever seen the smiles on the faces of our clients faces when they arrive, you would see this firsthand.”

With locations in Geneva and Bloomingdale, Marklund serves individuals with severe and profound developmental disabilities. Diana and her team are responsible for maintaining and securing all buildings and property. Gil Fonger, President and CEO of Marklund stated that, “Diana is so diligent about the safety of our clients and staff that this recognition does not surprise me. She never expects any recognition.”

The award of Exemplary Action is entitled to a civilian for whom the act performed must have been of unusual character requiring initiative or ability worthy of special recognition. The recommendation must come from an Officer of the Department, stating the reasons for the award and be directed to the Fire Chief.  The Trustees will then consider the nomination as presented by the Fire Chief.

“The students at this facility require thorough care with safety and education to be of extreme importance, stated Alan Isberg, Captain/Fire Marshall at the Elburn Fire Department . “The training of staff with regard to evacuation and extinguishment in the event of a fire or emergency has been outstanding.”
