Author's First Book Wins Two Honors in the 2014 Small Business Book Awards

Brian Basilico, owner of B2b Interactive Marketing, pens book as an educational tool for owners of small- to mid-sized businesses.

June 12, 2014 – Nearly a year ago, Aurora resident Brian Basilico was announcing the publication of his first book, “It’s Not About You, It’s About Bacon; Relationship Marketing in a Social Media World.”

Now the owner of B2b Interactive Marketing Inc. is collecting accolades for it. On June 3, the 2014 Small Business Book Awards named the book the Community Choice Winner in the category of Social Media. A day later Basilico was informed “It’s Not About You It’s About Bacon” also was given one of two Judges’ Choice Awards in Social Media by the same group.

According to a press release, the Small Business Book Awards celebrate the “best business books that appeal to entrepreneurs, small business owners, CEOs, managers and their employees.”

Additionally, in January, the Online Marketing Institute named Basilico one of the top digital marketing strategists for 2014 in this blog post. Basilico is humbled by the honors.

“As an educator and speaker, my main goal for the book was to teach,” said Basilico. “Receiving these awards is like getting an extra cherry on a sundae – unexpected, but totally enjoyable.”

The Community Choice Winners received support from the community and accrued the largest number of votes in their respective category. A select panel of small business owners, consultants, marketers and others chooses the Judges’ Choice Award.

“This means our community of small business owners thought your entry was the best in your category,” commented Susan Payton, one of the judges and president of Egg Marketing & Communications. “That’s quite an honor!”

Small Business Trends, an online publication, produces the Small Business Book Awards. Along with its sister sites, the publication serves over 6 million small business owners, stakeholders and entrepreneurs annually. This is their sixth year of recognizing the efforts of many entrepreneur-authors, who often whittle snippets of time to write from their busy schedule of running a business full time.

“It’s Not About You, It’s About Bacon; Relationship Marketing in a Social Media World” is written for the small- to mid-size business owner looking to see his or her business through the lens of their customer.

“I saw that many books try to tell you what social media is, but no one was addressing why you should use it,” says Basilico. “Businesses need to grasp the idea that customers buy from those they know, like, and trust; so I set out to explain it.”

The 300-page, soft-cover book is available on Amazon.com for $21.67. Those interested in learning more about the content of the book can visit the book’s website and blog, NotAboutu.com.
