White Castle Closes Restaurant on Randall Road

It's cold outside, but there will be no "sliding" at the White Castle on Randall Road.

If you've driven on Randall Road lately, you might have noticed the sign that says White Castle is closed.

According to articles by Charles Menchaca in the Kane County Chronicle and Susan Sarkauskas in the Daily Herald, the White Castle at 76 S. Randall Road —the nearest White Castle to Geneva — has been closed since sometime last week.

A sign at the front of the fast-food restaurant known for its "sliders" simply says "thank you for your business" and directs customers to other locations.

The nearest White Castles still in business are in Aurora, at 1219 Lake St. and 444 N. Rte. 59, Aurora, according to the White Castle website.

Batavia City Administrator Bill McGrath told the Chronicle and the Daily Herald that no one informed the city of the closing of the restaurant, which had been in operation for 12 years.

The White Castle Facebook page had some comments from disappointed customers.

"Devastating news.....Went to my Batavia, IL White Castle yesterday to try your new potato soup and found it has CLOSED!!!!! WHY???????," Margaret Kamen posted.

White Castle is privately owned and does not have franchises, as does McDonald's and other fast-food restaurant chains.

The Burger King in downtown Batavia closed in July. The former Burger King site at 107 N. Batavia Ave. is expected to house a Hardee's restaurant. Back in October, reports indicted that the Hardee's might move in within 90 days.
