What Would You Like To See At State And River?

Visions for Vacancies: Is a restaurant the best use of the space at the northwest corner of State Street and River Lane?

Two restaurants have tried to make a go of it at the northwest corner of State Street and River Lane.

The most recent, Three B — Brothers, Burgers and Beer, at 7 W. State St., closed its doors in early July after being in business for almost exactly a year. Before that, Monterey Place held the corner for about 18 months.

According to the Loopnet.com listing, the building has 7,140 square feet of available space divisible into spaces of 2,876 and 4,280 sqaure feet. Its rental rate is $18 a square foot.

"Excellent location along State Street in downtown Geneva, ample municipal parking behind the building, vacant space(s) has prominent frontage, with large windows. Close proximity to other retail shops and restaurants and minutes from the Geneva Metra Train Station," the ad says.

The corner seems like a great space, and the restaurants seemed to be generally well liked. Should that space be a restaurant again, or is there another type of business that would flourish there?
