Sun-Times Selling Suburban Dailies? Herald-News, For Sure
The Joliet Herald-News is sold to Shaw Media, owners of the Kane County Chronicle.
Crain's Chicago Business is reporting Monday that the Sun-Times (actually its parent company, Wrapports LLC) is selling the Joliet Herald-News and might be looking to sell other publications in the area, including The Beacon-News, Naperville Sun, Elgin Courier-News and Pioneer Press newspapers.
The buyer of the Herald-News, a 28,000-circulation (Sundays) daily in Joliet, is Shaw Media, which owns the Kane County Chronicle, The Republican weeklies and more than 100 print and digital publications in all, according to its website.
You can look at the exchange as good news for print media or bad news, depending on your point of view and demeanor. Optimistically, it's good to see that there's an interested buyer and that Shaw is doing well and acquiring new properties.
