Scarecrow Fest Preview on 'Today Show' Friday, Sept. 28

St. Charles' annual event is scheduled to be included on a segment on fall festivals scheduled to air at 8:36 a.m. Friday on NBC.

NBC’s Today Show has informed the Greater St. Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau that the St. Charles Scarecrow Fest will be featured on a fall festival segment at 8:36 a.m. Friday, the bureau announced.

The segment is scheduled to air across all time zone, the bureau said in an email, although the story could be bumped should a pressing news story develop.

Amy Egolf, the bureau’s executive director, wrote in an email Thursday afternoon.

Egolf wrote that Natalie Boscia, whose firm provides support to the Illinois Office of Tourism learned that the Today Show was looking to feature five destinations that offer fall festivals, and Boscia pitched Scarecrow Fest.

“We have been working closely with Natalie to get B-roll footage and stills shot over the past two years by David Phyfer of Stage Fright Productions into the hands of the show’s producers in the past 10 days,” Egolf wrote. “We have no word about how long the segment will be or what of the materials we sent will be included.”

Egolf said Boscia deserves a “HUGE thank you” for promoting the Scarecrow Festival to NBC, as well as for her guidance regarding creative submissions, as do David Phyfer and Carolyn Davis Designs “for helping us get creative to NYC in record time.”

In it’s 27th year, the Scarecrow Fest draws tens of thousands of people to St. Charles. In 2011, attendees visited from 142 Illinois communities and 16 states, with 44 percent of the visitors attending the festival for the first time, according to the bureau.
