Patch Poll: How Cool Will the Ice Skating Rink be for the Charlestowne Mall?

Would the rink be a draw for you?

People keeping tabs on the redevelopment of the on East Main Street know the management is pursing a more entertainment-based venue for the site.

As evidence of that plan for more entertaining attractions, signs posted on one large section of the mall proclaim the planned ice skating rink.

Recently, a mall spokesman told St. Charles Patch that, while the intended opening date for the rink is still this spring, the location of it will be moved from the east side to the west side of mall, near the former Sears store.

The idea is to group all entertainment options together in Charlestowne. Both a mini-golf location and the Classic Cinema theaters are found in that half.

We’d like to know what you think? Does the idea of cutting across the ice make a future mall visit more attractive for you?

I loved going to that mall until all the kids started taking over the place on the weekends. My daughter and I couldn't walk anywhere without seeing kids making out in a corner somewhere or for that matter anywhere in there. Being disrespectful with their language, attitude and behavior especially in the food court where there are families with small children. So it doesn't matter to me what they put in there because until they can control all the stupidity that occurs in there, I will not be there anytime soon.

Another potential idea to fill the empty Sears space would be bring in a bowling alley/arcade/banquet hall factility. When have you ever seen a bowling alley go out of business? It blends well and provides something the area is lacking and promotes fun for kids, families and even seniors! I would also offer the deal the the owners of St. Charles Bowl first to keep it locally owned and operated if possible. The ice rink will be a wasted effort I am afraid when there are many other viable options to rev up interest in that Mall.

Talk about throwing around dumb ideas,a ice skating rink is probably the last thing that will draw anyone there! The place is a SHOPPING mall! The thing that drew us there, when it was built, was the great, shopping! Yes, it was nice that they had the merry go round,(and our then, 2 year old son loved it) but it was the great mix of retailers that they had, that drew us,without the crowds, that we experienced,at the other malls!! That last statement, probably, states, it all!! Without customers, how can any mall, survive!!
