Geneva Jake's Says Farewell To Customers

Geneva Jake's will end its five-year run on Third Street on or about July 29, 2013.

Geneva Jake's, a "good genuine neighbor store," has announced that it will close its doors after five years of serving the Geneva area.

The going-out-of-business sale begins immediately, according to its Facebook page.

"On behalf of our employees and our families, we wish to thank you for your patronage these past years. We have had a lot of positive comments on our store and have been proud to be part of the Geneva business community.

"This is a very tough decision for us to make, but we believe everything works out for the best, and we appreciate your support."

The last day of the sale is likely to be July 29, said Christine Hopper, a sales associate at the store, located at 407 S. Third St. and owned by Don and Jane Marski, who also own a Jake's in Lake Geneva, WI.

Hopper said she started working there four years ago, when her daughter, who had worked at Jake's during the summer, went off to college. She'd thought she might hold her daughter's place until she came back the next summer, but Christine simply stayed on.

Hopper said customers have been very supportive.

"They’re extremely sad to see us go," she said. "We’ve ahad a real network of regular customers who are just like, 'Oh, you can’t do this!' "

Geneva Jake's has been a great citizen as well as a place to shop. It carries "an extensive assortment of both in-line and exclusive Life is good® merchandise, including the signature Life is good® AT HOME collection of home furnishings," according to its website.

"It’s called a neighborhood shop," Hopper said. "It’s actually the only one in Illinois."

So be sure to stop in before July 29 and enjoy the discounted prices.

"This sale is our way of saying thank you for your past business," owners said on Facebook.
