Expect Street Closures for St. Patrick's Parade Saturday in St. Charles

Parking restrictions also will be in force before and during the parade, which steps off at 2 p.m. Saturday on Main Street in downtown St. Charles.

The closest, biggest St. Patrick's Day celebration to Geneva is at our neighbor to the north, and with March 17 falling on Sunday this year, that means the St. Patrick’s Parade will step off on Main Street at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16.

It also means street closures and parking restrictions for the downtown St. Charles area, so here's a head's up:

Beginning about 1:45 p.m., the St. Charles Police Department will close:

  • Main Street (Route 64) between 7th Street on the West Side of the river and 5th Avenue (Route 25) on the East Side.
  • 2nd Street (Route 31) between State and Illinois streets.

Detours for both Route 64 and Route 31 will be posted and staffed by police and emergency management personnel using State Street, 7th Street, Illinois  Street, Illinois Avenue, and 5th Avenue

Motorists are reminded to follow detour route signs and be alert for pedestrians and traffic control personnel. The St. Charles Police Department encourages drivers seeking quick passage through the region to use alternate routes, as long delays may be experienced.

Parking will be prohibited on the parade and detour routes from noon to 3 p.m.. Vehicles parked in violation will be towed.

Six streets will be closed to allow for the staging of parade units beginning at 11 a.m. Those streets are:

  • Walnut Street from South 3rd Street to South 7th Street.
  • South 4th Street from Main Street to Illinois Street.
  • South 5th Street from Main Street to Illinois Street.
  • South 6th Street from Main Street to Illinois Street.
  • North 6th Street from Main Street to State Street.
  • Cedar Street from North 5th Street to North 7th Street.

Parking will be prohibited on those streets as well.

The St. Charles Police Department reminds everyone to act responsibly this St. Patrick's Day season. Be mindful of increased pedestrian traffic and do not text and drive.
