Batavia McDonald's To Reopen This Week

After three months, McDonald's will open again in a brand-new building in downtown Batavia. There will be daily specials through Dec. 9 at this location.

The golden arches are back up again in downtown Batavia.

The new Batavia McDonald's is set to open this week of Dec. 3-9, Yanni Management told the Kane County Chronicle. Yanni runs nine McDonald's locations in the Tri-Cities area.

Residents will finally see the inside of the brand-new building, which will include TVs in some seating areas, according to the Chronicle. Like other area McDonald's, the Batavia location had a double drive-thru installed to handle a large volume of car traffic.

The new digs were constructed in the same spot of the old building, 125 W. Wilson St. Crews began to tear down the 34-year-old structure on Sept. 5 and leveled the property in about 48 hours.

Officials projected a November opening, but the tentative 60-day construction schedule was pushed back. One delay involved changing design plans to address issues with the original soil foundation, according to an update city officials gave at a Sept. 11 Community Development Committee meeting.

Batavia has gone without a McDonald's since the construction began. The downtown location was a frequent meeting place for various groups. The new 4,000-plus sq. ft. space still has a dining room, but it's smaller than the previous building.

In total, 72 percent of modern fast-food business is in the drive through, said Kurt Neubauer, former McDonald's rebuild manager, during an April 4 Plan Commission meeting.
