St. Peter Track Battles For Second Place At Marmion Academy

The 5th graders dominate and two more school records fall.

With Annunciation of Aurora winning the overall contest scoring 779 points, the real battle in Saturday's Aurora Conference track meet was for second place. In the end St. Peter of Geneva came out on top with 467 points over St. Mary DeKalb with 348.5 points.

It was a valiant effort by the St. Peter student-athletes who had 16 teammates missing in action. They scored points in all but three events with the majority of the St. Peter competitors placing in the top three.

The same two school records that were broken two weeks ago fell once again. 7th grader Alec Wilson won the 200 meter dash in a personal best and school record 27.41 seconds, breaking the record for the second meet in a row. The 4x200 meter relay team of Wilson, along with 8th graders Logan Callaci, Matt Will and Jacob Berry also broke their two week old record, this time by 10 seconds in a time of 1:55.91.

The talented St. Peter 5th graders won both the boys and girls divisions in their age group. Three athletes won every event they entered. William Huber won the 1600 meter run, was on a winning 4x400 meter relay team and won triple jump. Ellie Hood won the 400 meter dash, the 800 meter run, was on a winning 4x400 meter relay team and won the high jump. Christelle Lapin wan the 100 meter dash, the 200 meter dash, was on a winning 4x200 meter relay team and won the shotput throw.

Next week the team will be competing in two meets. The younger team members will once again be facing Annunciation as well as rivals Holy Cross of Batavia and St. Rita at Marmion Academy. The varsity team will compete at the Aurora Christian Invitational as they prepare for IESA Sectionals on May 10.
