St. Peter Track Off To A Cold Start

Rocket Track and Field now ready for any weather!

The St. Peter School Track & Field team began practicing last week amid snow, rain, wind and freezing temperatures. Snow flurries fell during the first practice, the first time ever for the St. Peter track athletes. The very next practice was interrupted by a snow squall with near zero visibility, covering the track with a slippery layer of fresh snow. In spite of the winter weather both sprinters and distance runners alike accomplished some good training and are now ready for any weather that might come their way in the upcoming track season.

St. Peter begins their season with high hopes of placing in the top three of the Aurora Conference after a strong 2012 season and a 4th place finish at the Aurora Conference Championship Meet. The team also has many athletes in contention to qualify for the IESA State Track and Field Championship Meet, including returning 8th grader Charlie Zimmer who appeared in both the 800 and 1600 meter run at last year’s state meet and was the Class A runner up at the 2012 IESA Cross Country Championship Meet last October.

St. Peter’s competitive season kicks off in early April and runs through mid May with the IESA State Track and Field Championship Meet taking place at the Eastside Center in East Peoria on May 10-11.
