More Severe Thunderstorms Could Be Headed Toward Geneva
The National Weather Service—Chicago has a severe thunderstorm watch in place that could, potentially, include tornadoes.
There's a storm a comin'—Thursday night and there could be more Friday and Saturday.
The National Weather Service Chicago issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Kane County and the surrounding area from now until 1 a.m. Friday, May 31.
Scanner reports said the warning was lifted around 9:20 p.m., but a Hazardous Weather Outlook remains in place, and more warnings are likely in the next two days.
Other Illinois counties included the watch were Cook, DuPage, Ford, Grundy, Iroquois, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will.
Weather hazards expected include thunderstorms, some of which "may produce strong, damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph," heavy rainfall "possibly leading to flash flooding," and hail of up to an inch.
Isolated tornadoes were possible.
"ALTHOUGH THE STRONGEST THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUE ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS...THE THREAT FOR SEVERE WEATHER WILL QUICKLY EXPAND ACROSS NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA THIS EVENING," the National Weather Service-Chicago says.
Additional rounds of thunderstorms are expected Friday and Friday night. Heavy rain could continue Saturday, "possibly leading to flooding."
