Video Games: 'Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3' Setting Sales Records

The latest edition to the Call of Duty franchise, Modern Warfare 3, was released this past Tuesday at midnight and copies have been flying off the shelves. According to Mashable Entertainment, more than 1.5 million people waited outside stores for the midnight release. Modern Warfare 3 has had the most pre-orders in the entire industry's history.

Shattering sales records is nothing new for the Call of Duty series. Before the new Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty Blackops had broken the previous sales benchmarks in the industry. Modern Warfare 3 is expected to sell more copies than Blackops and any other video game.

Modern Warfare 3 is available for the Xbox 360, PC, Playstation 3, and Nintendo Wii and DS. The Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions are the main moneymakers for the series.

Critics have raved about Modern Warfare 3. The game has received 5 out of 5 from many critic and user reviews.

The reviews so far have been mixed among students at . Some say the game doesn't have enough new content. Others have gone as far as to say they're going to skip school to play the game.

"It's just like the last one," said junior Daniel Kobos.

"I really like the multiplayer, it's been refined a lot," said junior Noah Herr.

"I only had an hour to play it and I just wanted to break my TV while playing it," said senior Kyle Timko.

"I think it's good, it's a lot of fun to play," said senior Andrew Guevara.

There's bound to be a disparity of opinion with so many people evaluating Modern Warfare 3, especially with the hype that the game has built up until its release. The numbers don't lie, though—people want to play the game, and the Call of Duty franchise is still rapidly growing with its latest hit.
