Swedish Days Entertainment Lineup Is Top Notch

Here's what to expect on the Central Stage.

Geneva Chamber of Commerce’s 64th Annual Swedish Days Festival presented by Cadence Health runs from June 18-23, 2013, in downtown Geneva and has an array of talent that offers something for every type of music fan at three different venues.

“We’ve brought back some favorites and invited some special newcomers to continue our tradition of quality entertainers for all types of music lovers,” noted Jean Gaines, President of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce.  “The Central Stage line up this year is once again great—everyone will get a chance to enjoy different types of musical entertainment throughout the week.”

Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. welcome back one of the biggest and busiest indie bands in the world, 7th Heaven.  Their dead on renditions of Def Leppard, The Beatles, Bon Jovi, Journey and even U2 are will have you dancing & singing on Third street.  Musicianship, theatrics, and that unmistakable Irish brogue fuel original songs that came straight from the radio play-list.

Wednesday


  • Wednesday evening’s Central Stage entertainment will begin at 5:30 p.m. as the Swedish American Children’s Choir takes the stage to perform songs from Sweden with sweet sounding voices. The group is Illinois’ largest Swedish Children’s Chorus for ages 5-14. At 6:30 p.m. the semifinalists from “Geneva’s Got Talent” will perform. Applaud these talented individuals and help carry your favorite to the Saturday night finals, by voting on Facebook. Search for Geneva, IL – Chamber of Commerce & Tourism and look for the Swedish Days presented by Cadence Health logo. 
  • Stick around after as former American Idol contestant, Nick Lynch performs with Silversmith at 8 p.m. With a unique rasp to his voice, he shows the range and versatility needed to wow the audience with songs from many genres and artists.

Thursday

  • Thursday begins with State Street Dance Studio State Street Dance presenting - excerpts from An Evening at the Paris Cabaret and Don Quixote. At 6 p.m. come and be mesmerized and receive a gift certificate for one free class of choice.
  • At 7:30 p.m. Libido Funk Circus comes to town.  Watching this group perform on stage is just as exciting as their mix of favorite Disco hits, dance & rock songs.   From the chart toppers of the good ole' Motown days to the bass-thumping beats of today's dance music; from the always danceable Disco grooves to the new wave rock of the 80's… LFC has it "covered".

Friday

Friday Central Stage starts rocking at 6 p.m. with the winner of the Geneva Park District’s “Battle of the Bands” contest held Monday.

Your eyes won’t believe your ears as Final Say gets the crowd jumpin’ at 7:30 p.m. With vibrant, youthful energy and an extensive repertoire of songs that range from the latest Top 40 hits to classics that always bring an audience to their feet, Final Say delivers an impassioned show that makes the audience feel like they're a part of something remarkable.

Saturday

  • Saturday don’t miss “Geneva’s Got Talent” finalists, starting at 6:30 p.m. You helped vote them into the finals. Come see who takes home the $1,000 cash prize.
  • The Saturday evening entertainment continues at 8 p.m. when The Moods take Central Stage. The Moods are a singing group consisting of four guys dedicated to the fine art of harmony and choreography.  Performing Motown, blues, pop, jazz, doo-wop and rock n’ roll – they are not to be missed. 


'Concerts on the Lawn'

This ever popular midday musical event is held Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 1–3 p.m.  The line-up includes the talents of Lindsey O’Brien, Blind Roosevelts, Majors Junction and Dennis O’Brien.

Saturday and Sunday get your Swede on at Sweden Väst.  Opening the day, The Swedish American Children’s Choir will engage the young and young at heart with their songs.  In the afternoon, experience the variety of the all-male Chicago Swedish Glee Club.  Nordic Folk Dancers of Chicago will showcase their talent and encourage audience participation as Saturday comes to a close. 

Sunday kicks off with Chicago Spelmanslag, a Scandinavian Folk Band that will leave your toes tapping.

All evening concerts will be held at the Central Stage and Concerts on the Lawn are during the day in front of the courthouse.  Both venues are on South Third and James Streets.  Sweden Väst entertainment takes place on the corner of North Fourth and State streets.
