RiverPark Free Summer Concert Series Tips Off July 14

The series sponsored by the Geneva Cultural Arts Commission.

The RiverPark of Geneva’s “Summer Series” will kick off the year with a free concert by the Geneva Jazz Ensemble at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 14, in the amphitheater at Peyton Street and North River Lane.

The Geneva Jazz Ensemble is a group of 18 local musicians who all share a passion for music and performance, be it swing or modern funk. The band, begun under the leadership of Alexandra Schroeder as a Geneva Park District program 10 years ago, is directed today by Chris Werve, an NIU graduate in music education and saxophone performance, who besides performing at Northern with their world-renowned jazz ensemble, played at the RiverPark with his Geneva High Tandem Camel Combo.

The series sponsored by the Geneva Cultural Arts Commission continues July 21 with the return of the Arlington Heights based Prairie Brass Band, followed on July 28 by Mary Jean Bankmann’s Live Radio Theater and the Need to Be Seen Troupe.

Patrons are encouraged to bring folding chairs, back cushions or blankets. In case of rain, the program will be moved inside to the Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church at 211 Hamilton St.
