Postcards From Spring Break: The Met (Day 3)

There more to do in NYC than anyone can touch in a few days. And there's more at the Metropolitan Museum of Art than anyone can do justice to in a lifetime.

We spent the day at the Met.

We could have spent a year there and not really scratched the surface. It is a jaw-dropping experience—piece after piece, room after room, great hall after great hall of art and artifacts, the history of civilization unwrapped and laid in front of you with well-written, bite-sized tags, a feast for the mind and soul that you can never hope to finish.

The highlights? The Lila Acheson Wallace Galleries of Egyptian Art, with more than 26,000 objects of Egyptian art in 26 rooms and an entire Egyptian tomb in a massive open-air room with windows to Central Park. We loved the modern and contemporary art, believe it or not, maybe even more than the 19th and 20th century artists, which was so extensive. The American Wing transplants an entire house into the museum, on three floors, with rooms full of American art and furniture in 73 galleries.

Charles Kuralt Quote of the Day

"I remember being in the public library and my jaw just aching as I looked around at all those books I wanted to read. There just wasn't time enough to read everything I wanted to read."
