Marathon, Car Auction Highlight Another Great Weekend in Geneva

Again, there are a ton of fun things to do this weekend, including the first-ever Fox Valley Marathon.

The big event this weekend is the Fox Valley Marathon, which will run through Geneva starting at about 7 a.m.

Police say to expect traffic delays because Route 31 will be closed for a time.

If you're a spectator, there are a lot of places to view the race and estimated 1,200 runners.

Also on Sunday, students from Geneva Community High School will be decorating window downtown as a tipoff to Geneva's Homecoming week.

The St. Peter Church Barn Sale wraps up its summer-long series on Saturday and Sunday at the former Campana Building, 901 N. Batavia Avenue in Batavia. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, the Barn Sale's final day.

You can help celebrate the High Holy Days with your Jewish neighbors in a "break-the-fast" celebration at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Geneva History Center. This family-friendly and interfaith-friendly potluck will include signaling the ending of Yom Kippur with the blowing of the shofar, by Mike Weinberger. (BYO shofar and blow along!)

If you're a "gear head," The Mecum High Performance Car Auction at Pheasant Run features high-performance automobiles to be bought and sold among collectors. It starts at 8 a.m. both days and is open to anyone with any model collector car.

If you like theater, you'll love the The Curate Shakespeare As You Like It at the Geneva Underground Playhouse, 524 W. State St. The Saturday performance is at 8 a.m.

is at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Geneva Public Library. Lynn Rymarz returns for a dramatic portrayal of Susan B. Anthony, highlighting her determination and dedication that led to the passage of the 19th Amendment.
