Live Music at 318, Bread Essay Competition, National Aviation Day and More: 5 Things You Should Know for Friday, Aug. 19

And, today is the start of the Chicago Air and Water show.

You can enjoy a youth performance of Annie Jr. through Sunday at the Arcada Theatre by the Marquee Youth Stage Theatre Company. Marquee Youth Stage empowers our area's young people to learn the art of theater performance no matter what their background or economic status. 

Here are five things going on Friday, Aug. 19:

1. You can catch a from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at in Geneva. Bring the family to enjoy a frozen hot chocolate or share a pot of chocolate fondue while hearing some great live music.

2. Bakers and bread-lovers can submit an essay to 's contest through Aug. 31. Breaducation will challenge area bread-lovers to a one-of-a-kind competition that will make one lucky bread artist's dreams come true.

Cooks with a flair for all things bread are asked to submit a 500-words-or-less essay explaining their love for food. One lucky winner will receive the grand prize of one year's worth of master chef classes, a private dinner by a Le Cordon Bleu chef, and an overnight apprenticeship with a Panera baker. Two runners up will receive a $100 Panera gift card.

3. Marquee Youth Stage Theatre Company (MY Stage) will perform Annie Jr., at 7:30 p.m., at the  in St. Charles. MY Stage is a educational non-profit organization providing youth with enrichment opportunities, making performing arts accessible to kids from all backgrounds. 

Annie Jr. runs through Sunday. Tickets are available at http://marqueeyouth.org/Mystage/HOME__Tickets.html.  

4. Head over to the  in St. Charles for a lunch-time cookout from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The grill masters at "The Goose" will be serving up hamburgers, cheeseburgers, bratwurst and steak sandwiches. 

5. National Aviation Day takes place every Aug. 19. This national holiday was decreed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1939 to honor the birthday of Orville Wright, one of two brothers who built the first successful airplane in 1903.

In what is possibly a coincidence, the Chicago Air and Water Show begins it's preview and practice day today. Air performances by skilled professional and military pilots will take place Saturday and Sunday along Chicago's lakefront. The Chicago Air and Water Show has been held yearly since 1959.
