Kane County Fair 2012 Talent Contest Winners From Geneva, Elburn to Compete in Springfield

Geneva's Eric Luminais will compete Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs Official Talent Contest State Competition. Next year's Kane County Fair is set for July 17-21.

The Kane County Fair Talent Contest first place winners Eric Luminais, 19, of Geneva, Senior Division, and Nicole DiSandro, 14, of Elburn, Junior Division, will compete on Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs Official Talent Contest State Competition in Springfield, IL.                  

The talented Luminais performed an unconventional and complicated flute solo titled Three Beats for Beatbox Flute, Beats 1 & 2. DiSandro performed a theatrical vocal solo, Gimme Gimme from Thoroughly Modern Millie that was very strong and entertaining.

Both Luminais and DiSandro received a $200 First Place prize at the Kane County Fair Talent Contest held on Monday, July 16, 2012, as a “Pre-Fair Showcase” at the Kane County Fairgrounds in St. Charles. They will represent Kane County and will both compete in Springfield with the same performance.

According to Elizabeth McDevitt, chairman of the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs Talent Contest, “there will be 39 acts competing in the Senior Division and 38 acts in the Junior Division at the competition in January.”  Ten acts will be recognized to win in each division. The top six in the Junior Division and also the Senior Division will receive a trophy, a monetary award and an invitation to perform at the 2013 Illinois State Fair . The remaining top four in each division will receive an Honorable Mention.

The Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs Official Talent Contest State Competition in Springfield, IL, began its tradition in the 1970s in conjunction with the Illinois State Agricultural Fairs annual convention.

“Locally, the Kane County Fair Talent Contest is open to a wide variety of talent and entertainment,” said Larry Rossi, RPM Creative Music, coordinator of the Talent Contest. “In 2012, we had over 38 acts perform in our auditions and 19 finalists who competed for prizes. The judges were highly impressed with the quality of talent in our community. We really look forward to next year’s contest based on the excitement we experienced this year.”

The Contest is open to any person or group (school/organization) residing in Kane CountyMore details about the 2013 Kane County Fair Talent Contest auditions will be available soon. Auditions are usually held in June and the Kane County Fair will be held on July 17-21, 2013.
