Fox Valley Philharmonic Orchestra's "Operatic Fireworks!" Summer Symphony Concert

On July 1st, at 3:00 p.m., Music Director, Maryann Flock, and the Fox Valley Philharmonic Orchestra will present a free outdoor concert at the Naperville Concert Center featuring a collection of spectacular operatic works by vocal soloists and orchestral musicians.  Virtuoso sopranos Victoria VerHoven and Katheryn Barrett-Brown joined by the accomplished tenor, James Schopp, will perform popular arias by Mozart, Johann Strauss, Giuseppe Verdi and others.

As a special treat, Naperville’s Mayor Pradel will be the guest conductor for Sousa’s rousing operatic march, “El Capitan.”  In addition, instrumental works to be performed by the Philharmonic include the popular and fast-paced “Silken Ladder Overture” by Rossini, and the patriotic “1812 Overture” by Tchaikovsky, as well as the sumptuous “Carmen Suite” by Georges Bizet.

Two youth ensembles of the Fox Valley Academy of Music Performance will lead off the outdoor concert. The Fox Valley Youth Strings and the Academy Orchestra, under the direction of Cara Ying, will delight the audience with a few light favorites.  These talented young performers will also be joining the Philharmonic in Wagner’s “Rienzi Overture”.
