Festival of the Vine Starts Today

Festival of the Vine is one of Geneva's premier events. It features a flower market, crafts show, demonstration stage, live music, the Kids' Patch and Gorgeous Gourds: A Fall Harvest of Natural Art.

Geneva's "Flavor Fare," featuring a selection of dishes created by Geneva restaurateurs, and wine tastings take place under a huge outdoor tent.

Initially a celebration of anything grown on a vine, the festival now revolves around food and wine.  The event runs from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday at Fourth and State streets.

Geneva has a great number of fine restaurants showcased at the "Flavor Fare" along with a variety of wine for purchase.  Just one year younger than Taste of Chicago, the restaurants set up under one huge tent offering three of their favorite signature items.  Visitors purchase tickets and buy a "taste" at one of the featured stalls in the tent.  To accompany your food, unique wines from around the world will be available.  Versatile local and Chicago-land musical and dance entertainers will be featured on the stage.

For the second year, The Fall Harvest Market will be held in the courthouse parking lot. In addition to gorgeous-gourds artists, beekeeping with Dr. B, a display of harvest farm equipment and Geneva Green Market, food and floral demos will be on the Harvest Stage.

Young visitors will enjoy Kids' Patch in the courthouse parking lot.  Inflatable toys, mini-tractor pulls and crafts will be available, as well as the new pumpkin walk.

On Saturday afternoon, Bobby Poyner from Fox Valley Mixers will be the caller for some modern square dancing. Professionals from Fox Valley Mixers and Bachelors "n" Bachelorettes will assist with instruction.

Other events during the festival include an arts and crafts show, merchant wine tastings and special events, flower market, business booths, trolley and horse drawn carriage rides plus great shopping in Geneva's historic downtown.
