Audition for Honk Jr. October 21 and 22

Students in grades 3 through 9 are invited to audition for Rising Star Theatreworks' January 2011 production of Honk Jr. on Thursday and Friday, October 21 and 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Rising Star Theatreworks Studio, 451 Stevens Street, Geneva.

Based on Hans Christian Andersen's classic story The Ugly Duckling, Honk! Jr. tells the story of a baby duck named Ugly, whose odd appearance is mocked by his family and neighbors. Separated from the farm and pursued by a hungry cat, Ugly must find his way home. Along his rollicking and harrowing journey, he discovers his true beauty and glorious destiny, and also finds love and acceptance. Honk Jr.'s charm, humor and message of acceptance will reach audiences of all ages. Adapted for young performers, this junior version has been abridged to 60-80 minutes with music transposed into keys appropriate for young voices. Honk Jr. will be directed by RST artistic director Jeanne O'Donnell, and vocal director will be Dawn Harkins.

To audition, prepare 16 measures of a song appropriate for age and vocal range (preferably not from Annie, Hairspray or Wicked). An accompanist will be provided. Be prepared to learn and perform a short dance routine. Dress to move and bring dance shoes if you have them. An audition application and conflict sheet are available online at www.risingstartheatre.org. Tuition of $150 is due at the initial parent/cast meeting. Scholarships are available.
