Davy Jones of The Monkees Dies of Heart Attack

Singer who performed in Geneva not long ago is dead at age 66.

Davy Jones, best known as lead singer for The Monkees, is dead of a heart attack at the age of 66.

TMZ was first to report the sad news, and it's been picked up by the Tribune and just about every other media outlet.

Jones' most recent connection to Geneva was in 2006, when he performed live on Sept. 30 of that year. A YouTube video of that night is attached to this article.

In the video, Jones is introduced as "The greatest tambourine player in the world, the King Kong of the Monkees, the Ayatolla of rock 'n' rolla himself!"

"I look a lot shorter on television, I know that," he says to the crowd.

According to Wikipedia, Jones was a member of The Monkees from 1965 to 1971.

As a Monkee, Jones sang lead vocals on many of the group's songs, including I Wanna Be Free and Daydream Believer
