Authentic Swedish Day Is Sunday at Good Templar Park

This is one of the best, authentic Swedish events anywhere in the U.S.

There's Swedish Days and there's Swedish Day.

The Swedish Days celebration is a Chamber of Commerce festival in downtown Geneva that goes from Tuesday, June 18, to Sunday, June 23, 2013. It's loads of fun and a big deal.

But also loads of fun and a big deal is the annual Swedish Day event at Good Templar Park. This is the real deal for Swedes, with the May Poll and the whole nine yards.

Good Templar Park is located off of East Side Drive in Geneva, and it's just a beautiful place. Here's the skinny, from the Swedish Day website:

CELEBRATING 103 YEARS!!!

Welcome to Swedish Day 2013! Swedish Day (Svenskarnas Dag, Inc.) is the Midwest's oldest Midsummer festival, dating back to 1911. Swedish Day is held on the third Sunday of June (June 16, 2013) at Good Templar Park, 528 East Side Drive, Geneva, IL 60134.

This ethnic festival, organized by the Swedish Day Committee of  IOGT, has entertained the Fox Valley area for generations. Come out for the day and enjoy beautiful Good Templar Park! This family event has something for everyone: Arts & Crafts Fair, Folk Dancers, Maypole Celebration, Live Scandinavian Music, Children's Choir, etc.

Admission: Adults — $5; Children 12 and under free;
People dressed in Traditional Scandinavian Folk Costumes also free.
