Swedish Days Leftovers: the Lingonberry Smoothies at 318 Coffeehouse

Rick does Swedish Days: At last, the Overraskende.

All week, I was trying to get to the lingonberry smoothie at  tent.

I came to get one on Wednesday night during the performance but got there too late. I tried again Thursday morning after the but was too early.

Finally, during the on Sunday, my timing was just right.

We'd staked a shady spot on Third Street just a few dozen yards from 318 Coffeehouse, and when I finally felt I had enough photos for a gallery, I snuck over and got my reward.

I went for the recommended "Overraskninn" version, which is the sweeter choice because I think it has custard in it. Sweet it was, but not overly so, and it was gone in a matter of minutes.

Now, I wrote down "Overraskninn" from the menu, but the ink smudged on my notes, and I'm not sure about the spelling. I did a quick Google search and was guided to "Overraskende," which has many definitions, but the one I like best is the Norwegian for "amazing, surprising, astounding."

On the Shewalter side of the Nagel family, the lingonberries replace the cranberries on the dinner table at Thanksgiving, so I've had my share of lingonberries in my day. I can't be called a connoisseur, but I think it's safe to say I'm a lingonberry appreciator.

Some of the lingonberry flavor is hidden in the Overraskninn, but it is without doubt "overranskende," a delightful, four-star treat that I hope comes back to Swedish Days 2012.
