Secrets of the Coultrap Time Capsule Revealed!

Pardon that sensational headline, but this is just too much fun.

Nancy Bell sent along an email today saying she was going through the new Geneva Public Library archive of The Geneva Republican and found the article that mentions Coultrap's construction and time capsule.

According to the article (a screen shot of which you should see hear, if I did it right), the cornerstone of the building was placed, without fanfare, on Monday, Aug. 14, 1922.

The square block of white marble bears the inscription, "Geneva Community High School, 1922." A metal box inside contains documents that tell about the history of Geneva schools, other documents and several copies of (you guessed it) The Geneva Republican, "one containing a half tone picture of the school building as it will appear when completed."

Hopefully, the library will be able to add those copies to its archive.

I enjoyed Nancy's email comment that accompanied the article clip.

"It seems old Geneva High School/Coultrap started out without any fanfare and ended the same way," she said.
