Do Jake's 5K Run on Saturday and Help an Eagle Scout Preserve Geneva's American Flags

Geneva Jake's 5K Run is Aug. 6!

When sets out to do an Eagle Scout project, he shoots high.

The Geneva Boy Scout form Troop 37 and cross-country runner for Geneva High School has received city approval for a 5K Run on Aug. 6—and if you've ever tried to jump through those hoops, it's not as easy as just asking.

What motivated Dan was trying to find a solution to a problem he spotted in downtown Geneva.

"As a runner, I spend a lot of time running up and down State Street, in Geneva," he says on his website, runfortheflags.com. "One day, on a run through downtown I saw many tattered and worn (American) flags, unfit to be displayed. Then, to my horror, I saw a flag wrapped around the pole in a garbage can. I immediately took the flag out of the can and finished off the last two miles of my run with it. I gave it to my troop that night to retire properly."

Dan is "on a mission to educate the people of Geneve on flag etiquette, and to replace the American Flags in downtown Geneva."

will fund the event in an effort to help the community.

At 7:30 p.m., Aug. 6, "the gun will go off and runners young and old will be racing with one common goal in mind—the flags," Dan says. "So, I personally invite you to partake in the festivities, and join each other in raising our community one flag at a time. I'll see you on the course!"
